Wimbledon Championships 2010 - Week One

The Wimbledon Championships is the most prestigious major tournament in tennis and is considered by many to be the most significant sporting event in the World. Thousands of fans flock from all over the World to see their favourite tennis stars perform on the famous courts of Wimbledon over the two weeks of competition.

During the tournament, Wimbledon is completely transformed as tennis fever grips the nation’s capital and hundreds of thousands of fans migrate to SW19 to witness the fantastic action out on the grass courts. The 124th Championships was made an extra special Royal tournament thanks to the first visit to the All England Lawn Tennis Club by Her Majesty the Queen for 33 years.

Hospitalityfinder welcomed a host of guests to savour a fantastic day of sublime food, drinks and incredible tennis at the magnificent SW19 venue. The Championships are quite rightly the most celebrated event on the tennis calendar, where our guests come to enjoy the unrivalled corporate entertainment that only Wimbledon can offer.

Week 1 at the All England Club is an ideal opportunity to see a wide range of tennis players, ranging from the emerging talents of the youth game, right through to the all the top seeded players of the Men’s and Women’s game.

Guests arrived at the charming Wimbledon Lakeview Restaurant in the morning and were greeted with a Pimms and champagne reception in the glorious summer sunshine. Light music filled the air whilst friendly hostesses patrolled the sunkist balconies, armed with sumptuous canapés to tempt the clients.

The balconies gave stunning views of the SW19 countryside, overlooking the lake as well as the fabulous Wimbledon Centre Court.

There was nearly a major shock in the early stages of the tournament, with defending champion Roger Federer giving supporters a scare by only just scraping through his first round match.

With guests free to come and go from the corporate hospitality facility at their leisure they truly had the best of both worlds, where they could relax in the comfort of the Lakeview restaurant and balcony, or choose to be chauffer driven to the courts to absorb as much tennis as they could.

The fine dining experience in the restaurant culminated in a four course á la carte luncheon served with fine wines in the early afternoon ahead of the day’s action out on the courts.

The highlight of week one was undoubtedly the epic contest between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. Not at the top of many spectators’ wish lists, however this match proved to be a true Wimbledon classic as the two gladiators battled it out for more than 10 hours over the course of three gruelling days. This record-breaking match finally ended 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(9-7 6-7(3-7, 82-81 with the victorious, but exhausted Isner claiming “Nothing like this will ever happen again – ever.”

A traditional Wimbledon afternoon tea of strawberries and cream was served both in the restaurant and in the sunshine of the balcony to the receptive guests.

The meticulous hostesses left no stone unturned in ensuring guests were enjoying the finest in corporate entertainment, which was only matched in quality by the standard of tennis on display.

Week 1 at Wimbledon saw some spectacular action yet again at the All England Club where one way or another all the top seeds made their way through into the latter stages of the tournament. Hospitalityfinder proudly hosted another exceptional week of corporate hospitality at Wimbledon and left every guest with an overwhelming sense of enjoyment at a corporate event to remember.

You can be a part of it in 2011 and enjoy a superb hospitality day at the The Wimbledon Championships, where Tennis fans gather to witness one of the finest sporting spectacles in the world.
