In Focus: Royal Ascot 2014

Drawing in hundreds of thousands of racegoers each year from all over the world, Royal Ascot is the showcase event of the horse racing calendar with 2014 offering the best in corporate entertainment for VIP guests. There were so many highlights on the track and so many memories for the quarter of a million people who attended over the five days.

The much anticipated arrival from Her Majesty the Queen in her horse drawn carriage sets the tone for a tremendous day of tradition and entertainment on the opening day at Royal Ascot. VIP racegoers were welcomed with their complimentary morning coffee as day one kicked off with three of the most acclaimed Group 1 races in the World: The Queen Anne Stakes, The King's Stand Stakes and The St James' Palace Stakes, which provided guests with plenty of opportunities to have a flutter during the day's racing.

Gentlemen wore their finest suits and ladies showed off their awe-inspiring hats as day two served up another feast of entertainment at the magnificent Berkshire venue. In addition to the glamour and pageantry on display, the second day developed into one for the ladies, with female horses winning four of the six races on the card. A particular highlight was the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes with The Fugue taking the win.

The sun carried on shining as Thursday’s Gold Cup Day begun, often referred to as Ladies' Day, where style came into focus and Ascot Racecourse burst with colour as racegoers showcased an eye-catching array of extravagant, classical, chic and elegant outfits. The key race of the day was undoubtedly the Group 1 Gold Cup, which was famously won in 2013 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who made it an historic occasion by claiming a win with her horse Estimate, becoming the first reigning monarch to enjoy success in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Unfortunately, Estimate was unable to overhaul the favourite Leading Light and his jockey Joseph O’Brien this time around. As midday approached on each day, VIP guests sat down ready for their luxurious luncheons which were served from one of the 39 kitchens in operation during Royal Ascot. Fine wines accompanied the sumptuous food as guests tucked into their indulgent cuisine overlooking the race track in the Ascot Village. Drenched in sunlight, the panoramic views provided by the Ascot Village gave guests the perfect viewing platform of each of the day’s races.

Royal Ascot 2014

The Friday of Royal Ascot week was the stage for the most controversial finish of the meeting and also for one of its most popular results. The outcome of the Queen’s Vase had to be settled in the Steward’s Room after the winner, Hartnell, had failed to keep to a straight path in the final stages of the race. Guests were served a traditional afternoon tea along with a share of the staggering 50,000+ glasses of Champagne and 40,000+ glasses of Pimms which are consumed over the five days.

Proceedings begun once more with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth arriving in style at the racecourse as part of the Royal procession for the climax of Royal Ascot which showcased another dazzling display of glitz, glamour and style at Ascot Racecourse. The biggest story of the final day was Ryan Moore’s superb treble that ultimately helped him to clinch the title of Royal Ascot’s leading jockey for 2014.

Singing around the bandstand traditionally signalled the end of another great week at Royal Ascot.  Guests in the Ascot Village, Sandringham Restaurant, Carriages Restaurant, Balmoral Restaurant, Trackside Restaurant, 5th Floor restaurants and Private Boxes all thoroughly enjoyed their visits to Royal Ascot and the proof is here along with reviews from all of our other events.
